Meet Amanda from It's Blogworthy. She puts the A in Awesome and not just because her name starts with an "A." Our mutual love for HIMYM created an instant bond, then I learned about her Disney obsession and there was no going back...
When Hutch asked me to guest post for her, I knew exactly what I wanted to write about. Actually I had several ideas, because apparently it's easier to come up with ideas on someone else's blog than my own. At first I was going to write about How I Met Your Mother, which is the awesome show that this blog is named after (and the best show you're probably not watching). But we have something else in common, a trait that not many others have or admit.
We're country music fans.
People think country music is, like, the devil. “Oh, it's so hillbilly, its' only about drinking and cheating and heartbreak.” and “I can't stand steel guitars.” Actually that's pretty much the only excuses I ever get. No one seems to have a legitimate excuse for hating on country.
Although I do understand that taste is a factor (I don't like heavy metal), I'd like to give you 5 good reasons to try country music.
1. They have clever lyrics.
It's not just tears in beer anymore. Country is more like your everyday top 40 station than the twang of the past. I like country because the songs are either poppy and meaningless or tell a really great story. There's one song that says “God is great, beer is good and people are crazy.” If that isn't one of the truest things ever, I don't know what is. Then there is Taylor Swift who likes to sing about being 15 years old and finding out you're not a princess. Come on, ladies, you remember those days, right? Relive your awkward teenage years with Taylor Swift! And one of my favorite songs is Toes by Zac Brown Band, telling the story of leaving the confines of city life and escaping to a tropical island where you drink Jager all day and play guitar on the beach. See? No beer. No tears. Just Jager and the ocean.
2. It isn't pretentious.
You wont' see any stilettos and champagne in clubs in the country world – it's all PBR by the lake and whiskey by the bonfire. COME AS YOU ARE, they beckon, we will welcome you with open arms but might kick your ass if you try to steal our women/men so tread with caution. And then after they party, they go to the Waffle House. Have you seen Ke$ha head to the Waffle House after the po po shuts her down? No, the sugary syrup would mix with her Jack toothpaste and cause cavities.
3. It's becoming increasingly female dominated with women who write their own songs.
Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift. And not all those ladies sing about princesses. Most female country singers also play guitars and they are sort of badass – You rarely see a female country singer hiding behind a gimmick. However, they call out their cheating boyfriends, they light stuff on fire and they basically don't take any crap.
4. It's sort of like a reality TV show – sometimes you can't look away.
Because come on – you KNOW you stop to watch Jersey Shore, even if you don't tell anybody. Or, for instance, let's say you're driving someplace and see a girl slamming a bat into a nice truck. You'd totally stop and watch that mess and then text your friends about it, right? Hello Before He Cheats?
5. Country singers = eye candy
I have a girl crush on Carrie Underwood. Seriously, and I will readily admit it. She rocks fake eyelashes and is like 5 pounds and her makeup always looks amazing. There are lots of pretty people in country music, especially the young solo artists and groups like Lady Antebellum and Gloriana. And there are some cutie country guys too (Dierks Bentley is one who comes to mind). Would you rather look at Lil Wayne:
or Chuck Wicks:
So there you go – 5 good reasons why next time you flip by your local country station, you should stay for a few minutes. Hutch and I say so!

I couldn't agree more! I can't wait to put my toes in the water, ass in the sand, not a worry in the world a PBR in my hand...life is good today. AND I get to see Chuck Wicks 2 weeks from Tuesday, yum :) Thanks again for helping me out, you rock!
YAY! Glad I could help. I listened to some country on the way to work this AM in honor of this blog..ha! :) I was trying to find some country guys shirtless but apparently it's not cool to do that. So you guys -- go enjoy some country -- listen to Zac Brown or Lady A!
I vote Chuck Wicks!
I also love country. We had our only country station taken off the air last summer and I was super pissed. The ONLY country station in the entire GTA. What's up with that?
OK, I do not usually like country music so much but I have really been in to Taylor Swift recently. So that counts as country music? Taylor Swift > Ke$ha. I also super like HIMYM.
LOVE country music! chuck wicks is gorgeous!
Haha, as always Amanda, you crack me up. Chuck is pretty HOT! In the past year I've become a huge Gary Allan fan though!
What the EFF happened to Lil Wayne!? I remember when he was just a lil guy. That is just awful.
So yeah my vote goes for Chuck Wicks. Nom.
I really don't know anything about country music, but I will admit that Taylor Swift has become a guilty pleasure of mine and I think that Carrie Underwood is beyond talented.
OK, so I was teetering between 3 and 4 as your best reason, but then I got to the photo at #5. That sealed the deal, baby!
I don't follow the country music too much but those you mentioned are definately at the top of my country lists! Can't forget about
Dolly :) haha
Bahahaha... best argument for country music EVER!!!! And Chuck Wicks is HOT!!!
I'm a country girl, grew up on a farm, and have such a thing for a man in a stetson. Yum yum.
So, I totally listen to country when others aren't around. You can't admit to it as a Chicagoan. But, you know I like my chicken fried. A cold beer on a Friday night AND a pair of jeans that fit just right. So there you have it.
Plus, while I had not heard of Chuck Wicks (because I can't turn on 99.5 round these parts) yum. That is all.
Alright, yes. I will give you the country singers/eye candy thing.
Other than that, country music is like the devil.
I'm so happy this is out here for the masses! I started listening to country music after I graduated HS (circa 1994) and I've been in love with it ever since. I will admit that the twangy tear in my beer country is still my favorite. I think the Honky Tonk Badonkadonk was a bit much but still fun.
Carrie is amazing - I just adore her. Taylor is a doll and I wish more girls would look up to her and Chuck Wicks ... SWOON.
Bottom line I love going to country bars, dancing the night away and as you said the come as you are welcoming given.
But I'm also a HUGE fan of HEAVY METAL (and rap music, or at least old school hip hop I can't get into folks like Soldier Boy - I know I "spelled that wrong" I'm sure he spells it some other strange way) or Little Wayne - shudder).
